Hope – Judy Marshal

Hope: To want something to happen or be true and think that it could be true.

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, So that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. – Romans 15:13

The two greatest gifts that God gives us in His Son are Peace and Joy. They are ours, they are our inherited rights. We can have peace and joy because we are His children. They come with the salvation package.

So WHY don’t we walk in that peace and joy? Why do we walk around with sad faces? Why do we spurt words and thoughts of self-pity? Why do we often feel sorry for ourselves? Why do we feel that the world is against us? Why do we become depressed?

The Scripture says, and God promises, that the God of hope will fill us with all joy and peace. So why aren’t we living that way? This is perhaps because we are not living with trust. The scripture states, “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace AS you trust in Him.”

Herein is the problem. We do NOT trust in Him!

The scripture calls God, The God of Hope.

When hope is described as a verb it means to expect with confidence: or to trust.

We hope in everything but God. We hope in stuff, money, other people, and good luck charms. We make statements like “I hope I can lose weight.” “I hope I can declutter my house.” Here again is the need of worship and thankfulness. When your mind is occupied with thanking God, you have no time for worrying or complaining. If you practice thankfulness consistently, negative thought patterns will gradually grow weaker and weaker. Draw near to God with a grateful heart, and His presence will fill you with joy and peace!
